'Popkick'

I don't know whether to be amused or worried.

My three year old daughter - 'Shaffu', who for now is an only child has an imaginary friend called 'Popkick'.

Now, I know that children create these friends for various reasons, and reasons for the appearance of 'Shaffu's' friend in our home might not be unconnected with loneliness especially as the schools are presently on holidays.

'Popkick' isn't entirely a bad or worrisome person, so far. From what we have gathered she lives in London - my daughter hasn't been to London but we have friends living there. She refers to the imaginary friend as her sister, which I feel is an indication of her loneliness as an only child.

'Popkick' usually comes in when we are having arguements about something she has done and I am trying to correct her suddenly she'll say 'Popkick' said its o.k. to do it like that!

She is a strong willed child and likes to have her own way and I know that 'Popkick' has come on board to add more power to her arguements.

'Popkick' hasn't caused any damages - yet!!! but I seriously wasn't her out of 'Shaffu's life and fast.

It's so unfab having her interfere with my attempts to teach my daughter. Its spooky too having my daughter talk of some one who isn't there.

Having said that I'm amused by the high level creativity and imagination that has brought 'Popkick' on. But what I need to do is to find ways of channeling that creative power into more productive and positive areas.

Watch this space for more on 'Popkick' and my attempts to gat her out of my fab life.

WET WET WET

I just love the rainy season.

Of course this may sound weird to some people but living in the tropics the rainy season is much cooler than any other season in the year. it also means that we tend to stay indoors more and of course spend more quality time with each other as a family.

It has been a very wet day today and even though we didn't get to spend much of it at home, we still had loads of family time moments.

It is my mum's birthday today!!! Happy Birthday Mum!!! After picking up Shaffu from school, we all drove to my parents to spend some time with her.

I brought some ingridients for making pepper sauce which we had with rice. My younger sister who had recently gotten married came with her husband and brought a cheesecake with her which we had for afters. some of my mum's friends came over too. I think she had a good time.

Spending time with my mum on her birthday has become an important family ritual for all of us. Six years ago, we lost my younger brother. he died two days after my mum's birthday - 12th of July, since then my mum has been getting sad around her birthday time.

By spending time with her we hope to help her remember all the other blessings she has and to look beyond the grief of loss to see God's bounteous blessings. I do hope we can achieve this.

As I thank God for giving her the grace to see another year, I pray for God's perfect healing of her heart from grief.
